One of the most memorable rags-to-riches stories I've encountered, Brendan Bartic's life journey illustrates the crucial role of Third Way Center, a residential treatment center for mentally ill, disadvantaged and often homeless adolescents and their families. Beautifully illustrated by Lance Jackson and with camera support from Chad Seidel, this 6-minute story was created to raise awareness of Third Way Center's critical role in reshaping young lives, steering kids away from crime and prison and towards their own truth and hope. Almost every year I'm lucky to visit Roundup River Ranch, a camp in the heart of the Colorado Rockies that serves children with serious illnesses and their families. There's something I feel when I'm at camp that stays with me every day of the year. This 3-minute vignette features Jordan, a young lady who suffers from a serious heart condition, and her parents. Their openness to our cameras, their strength, poise and ability to thoughtfully articulate the unimaginable made this a story I'm proud to have created. Learn more at www.roundupriverranch.org. Beautifully photographed by Chad Herschberger and Davis Coombe and co-produced with the Milkhaus.

Blending stories from several past residents of the Third Way Center, a residential treatment center for adolescents, "Six Boxes" walks us through some of the methodology pioneered by Dr. Hildegard Messenbaugh, MD., an intellectual powerhouse and asset to the world of psychotherapy. This piece delves into some deep waters—relying on illustrations was key, and beautifully done by Davis Coombe. Learn more at www.thirdwaycenter.org

Are you ready to listen?
That’s the question Building Bridges asks young people as they equip future leaders with the communication and leadership skills to address the root cause of hatred, discrimination, and violent conflict. With a strong focus on adolescent girls in the Middle East, Building Bridges has been empowering young minds for 20 years to transform divisive attitudes. This 5-minute film won a 2014 CINE Golden Eagle Award for Independent Division Documentary Short. As the filmmakers, we ask, "Are you ready to watch?" (C'mon it's just 5 minutes!) Directed by Oscar award-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Junge, shot by Aaron Kopp and Robert Muratore, musical score by Gunnard Doboze, finishing post-production at the Milkhaus with color by Dave Krahling and audio mix by Leslie Gaston Bird. You want me to go to summer school? What???
Written by the Kent Breakthrough summer students of 2012, this 4-minute video is a recruitment tool to encourage fifth graders in public schools to apply for an educational summer program that will set them on track for college. Boy, was it fun to make! It's nearly impossible to capture in 2D the electrifying wave of positivity that you feel at the Breakthrough campus each day, but we took a shot at it! Finishing Color and Graphics by Dave Krahling and Co-Produced by Milkhaus. Learn more at www.breakthroughdenver.org

HRC’s “On the Road to Equality” nationwide bus tour set out in Summer 2011 to spread the message of equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to become advocates for themselves and their families. Denver-based production company Milkhaus traveled to cities large and small across the country to document this ambitious outreach campaign. The footage was also purposed for an extended video that screened at the HRC’s annual dinner before President Obama took the stage to deliver an historic keynote speech supporting GLBT rights. Elias grew up with a fascination for cars and aspired to working in a repair shop. Now, thanks to the Denver Scholarship Foundation's help in getting him through college, he's on track to design cars, not repair them. He's just one of so many fantastic examples of students whose lives have been changed by this foundation. Produced by Milkhaus, Camera by Davis Coombe and Aaron Kopp. Learn more at www.denverscholarship.org

Through the half-dozen-or-more video projects I've done with Colorado Neurological Institute (CNI) since 2012, I've been exploring the question, 'what matters most in life?' Each survivor, caregiver, doctor, nurse and volunteer I've interviewed at CNI has shaped the way I personally answer this question. Culminating in an emblematic 2014-bucket-of-ice-thrown-on-the-head, "Live Well. Be Happy" weaves together three personal stories representing CNI's three mission elements: research, education and patient services. Learn more at www.thecni.org

Using split-screens and alternating voices, this 5-minute video shows the Breakthrough program from two essential angles: Teacher and Student, who are, as it turns out, kinda one and the same. We loved getting to know these two powerful young ladies over the summer of 2012! Learn more at www.breakthroughdenver.org. CNI wears a lot of hats. They are a non-profit medical institute, a center for research, an organizer of educational conferences and support groups, a rehab facility and source of patient services. A large part of their fundraising is accomplished through bike races and golf outings, encouraging all of us to get outside and be active—so quintessentially Colorado. This video was created to inspire Parkinson's patients to stay active, and also to promote the 2013 CNI Golf Classic. Learn more at www.thecni.org
